Biodata (Brief):
Dr. Sharifah Syahirah Bt Syed Sheikh, a Senior Lecturer at Kolej Universiti Poly-Tech MARA, is a passionate scholar specialized in human development, gender studies, politics, governance and policy. She received her early education at Sultanah Asma Girl School, Alor Setar, Kedah. She holds a Bachelor of Human Science (Hons) in Political Science (2001), and MHSc in Political Science (2004) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and PhD in Political Science (2011) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
She has been actively involved in various NGOs and academic organizations. She was a former Honorary Assistant Treasurer of National Council for Women’s Organization (NCWO, 2016), EXCO of the South East Asian Association for Gender Studies (SAMA, 2014), Vice President of Persatuan Khazanah Alam Selangor (PEKA, 2017) and Vice President of Malaysian Social Science Association (PSSM, 2018). Currently, she is appointed as Co-Chairperson of Education Committee of National Council of Women’s Organization (NCWO) and EXCO of Malaysian Social Science Association (PSSM). She is also a Life Member of International Movement for A Just World (JUST).
She represented the Malaysian Civil Society (CSOs) in various regional and international meetings such as the 57th Commission on the Status of Women (UN) and ASEAN Intergovernmental Council of Human Rights workshops. She published more than 50 articles in journals, book chapters and proceedings related to gender and politics including two books on young women perception, hopes and challenges in Malaysia. She also completed various research grants such as Fundamental Research Grant on CEDAW and its implementation in ASEAN (2014), National on Young Women Survey (2016), Social Inclusion and Malaysian Policy (2016, 2018), Foreign Workers in Malaysia (2017), Sexual Harassment in Sports (2016, on-going 2018) and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Resolutions (2015). As an academician and social activist, she believes in the mission towards strengthening the ‘power of idea’ for substantive equality between men and women, realization of human rights, and maintaining genuine perpetual peace by criminalizing war.

- Principle Investigator. Constructing the Code of Practice and Policy on the Prevention and Elimination of Sexual Harassment in Sports. Funded by National Sports Institute (ISN) – RM78,000 from November 2018 until June 2020.
